June is a great month to focus on giving your Breakthrough Goal a push.

At the beginning of the year, perhaps you set a Breakthrough Goal for the year and began working towards it. This is the bold, meaningful outcome that would make this year unforgettable.

Now, as we move through June, it’s a powerful time to recommit to that vision, reignite that fire, and give your Breakthrough Goal a big mid-year push so you finish the first half of the year strong and step into July with clarity and momentum.

However, this is not about pressure or playing catch-up. It’s about pausing to ask:

What did I set out to do or become this year? And where am I now, compared to that vision I had at the beginning of the year?

It’s so easy to lose sight of our dreams in the busyness of life. But when we reconnect with what truly matters, we realign ourselves with purpose, clarity, and power.

What if You Haven’t Set a Breakthrough Goal?

If this is the case for you, don’t worry. There’s still enough time to craft the goal and start working on it diligently through the remaining months of the year.

Here’s a quick way to define your Breakthrough Goal for the rest of the year:

  • Reflect: What one significant achievement or transformation, personally or professionally, would make the second half of this year truly impactful for you?
  • Define: Write it down. Make it Specific, Measurable, Ambitious, Relevant, and Time-bound (SMART). What does success look like by December 31st?
Here are some tips on setting SMART goals.
  • Identify First Steps: What’s the very first action you can take this week to move towards it?
  • Take Action: Take the first step, review at the end of the week, recalibrate, identify the next step, and keep moving forward.

Don’t worry about the time that has already passed. Even starting now, you can make incredible progress in the remaining months of the year.

My Experience This Year

In January, I set a Breakthrough Goal to publish my business startup book and create an accompanying online course.

The course isn’t an issue as I already have the content. But writing the book has taken me on a journey I didn’t expect.

I’m far behind my writing goal for the year. And honestly, what’s kept me going is hosting Elevate, the mastermind I’m running this year for women solopreneurs who are launching e-courses.

Elevate has been instrumental because I’m not just hosting; I’m participating. Somewhere along the way, members of the mastermind decided that I, too, needed to participate as I was creating an e-course on the side.

That means I’m also on the hot seat, being challenged and held accountable just like everyone else.

Getting back to the book…it outlines a 12-step process for launching a business in your free time. This is a business that monetizes your expertise, so you’re not starting from scratch by learning new skills.

This book is built from my own experience and also from having helped women start businesses over the years. An earlier version still sells (it’s a PDF), but it’s time to publish the full version and formally launch the accompanying e-course.

Currently, I’m wrapping up Step 6, when I should have been handing over the rough first draft to the publisher.

Unexpected Hiccups: A Blessing in Disguise

What I didn’t anticipate when I set the Breakthrough Goal in January was the time and effort it would take to collate resources from different locations:

  • Two old business blogs.
  • Three Google Drives.
  • My computer.
  • Emails.
  • The old e-course.
  • Coaching session notes.
  • And even handwritten brainstorming ideas.

I hit a wall at Step 5 and had to pause to gather and organize all this, and Tiago Forte’s Building a Second Brain helped immensely.

There have also been many moments of low motivation over the last five months, when I didn’t feel like writing at all. That is where being in Elevate Mastermind is helping because I have to report progress or lack of it. There’s no hiding.

And the Breakthrough Goal? It’s still there, staring back at me like the frog I have to eat, as Brian Tracy aptly puts it in Eat That Frog.

But here’s what changed everything for me.

Even though I’m behind, I’ve made more progress this year than I have in the last five years combined.

This is a goal I’ve wanted to achieve for five years, yet it kept appearing on my goals list year after year without real movement. That insight gave me such a boost!

Will I publish the book this year?

That’s still the goal because goals don’t change; tactics and strategies do. And it is possible if I complete the first draft by the end of Q3.

So now, my focus is on submitting that imperfect first draft to the publisher who has been waiting (and checking in) since 2023.

That’s my progress update, and I’ve shared it here to encourage you if you’re behind on your own goal or feel like giving up.

What If You’re On Track or Have Achieved Your Breakthrough Goal for the Year?

Not everyone is behind on their goals for the year. Some are on track, and others have achieved their goals.

Congratulations if you’re on track with your Breakthrough Goal! Celebrate progress, keep going, and supercharge your effort so you hit your target early.

If you’ve already achieved your Breakthrough Goal, that calls for a super celebration!

So celebrate, then pause and decide: Do you want to take a break and enjoy this achievement, or do you want to set a new goal for the second half of the year?

I’ve had the privilege of witnessing some incredible breakthroughs this year. For example, I have clients who achieved their annual goals within the first five months of the year, and these were not small goals!

The achievement was both scary and exhilarating for them. They worked hard, but didn’t expect to get such big results so soon in the year.

Their experiences reminded me of something I wrote about what to do next after you achieve your goals. Click here to check it out for insights on what’s next after you’ve achieved any Breakthrough Goal.

Your Way Forward

Take some time to reflect:

  • What vision did you carry into this year?
  • What progress have you made, big or small?
  • What part of that vision still lights you up and feels worth pursuing?

And most importantly:

What is one action you can take to give your Breakthrough Goal a push?

Choose the action and do it. And remember that you don’t have to do it all at once. You just need to know what matters and take one intentional step at a time.

Finally, here’s a simple rhythm you can follow each week:

  1. Evaluate your current progress.
  2. Identify your next small step.
  3. Schedule it in your calendar.
  4. Take action.
  5. Reflect and evaluate at the end of the week.
  6. Decide on your next step.
  7. Repeat.

By doing this, you recommit to your vision and give your goal the attention and energy it deserves each week.

And if you’re looking for support in defining and achieving your breakthrough goals, you might find my previous blog post helpful. It explores the importance of personal strategic planning in creating a fulfilling life.

Here’s to showing up with grace and recommitting with courage.
