I contact my past clients at least twice a year despite them being on my mailing list and it never ceases to amaze me when I see how much they’ve achieved within 6-12 months.

During these follow ups this week, we explored where they started and how far they’ve come in their lives and businesses.

As I talked to one person after another, it became clear that you cannot escape your own personal growth if you want to succeed.

It was also interesting to note that each person I spoke to gave more feedback about the personal growth they achieved during their coaching as opposed to their career or business growth.

Personal growth is so important that it featured in my top 10 reasons why you’re not earning a great income from your business.

Many people miss out on this, which leads to ups and downs in their businesses.

What is personal growth?

Personal growth is simply finding out who you really are, deciding what your life is about, and taking steps to live the kind of life you want.

In this process, you take 100% responsibility of your life (including all your successes and failures), take charge of your life and finally have control of your emotional, mental, physical and financial destiny.

Why is personal growth so important?

True success, the kind of success that is not only financially rewarding, but also fulfilling and permanent, comes when you grow as a person.

It’s easy to start a business or find your dream job and succeed in it. But it’s not easy to achieve inner peace, financial success, fulfillment, spiritual well-being and happiness.

Many people fear exploring their personal growth because they don’t want to ‘go there’. As one client put it, “Men are somehow able to put aside their personal dramas and concentrate on building their success, but women need to sort out their stuff first.”

Where do you start?

Working one-on-one with a coach is out of reach for many people, but there are some things that you can do depending on your finances:

  • Get Anthony Robbins’ books Awaken the Giant Within or Unlimited Power and work through them.
  • Attend workshops and seminars that teach you how to increase your self-esteem, confidence and be more courageous to go after your goals.
  • Work with a therapist, counsellor, or psychiatrist if you need to heal from wounds left by abusive relationships, emotional trauma that happened in the past, or been diagnosed with stress or depression.
  • If you’re dealing with an addiction, join a support group that has a structured program (e.g. Alcoholics Anonymous) or work with a Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) practitioner to help you overcome the addiction.

Once you sort these out, you’ll move faster in achieving your goals and be happier and more fulfilled.

Don’t make the mistake I see many women making when they seek success without sorting out their ‘baggage’ so to speak. This baggage will come back to haunt you in the future or it will keep you playing small and not allow you to achieve your full potential.

So if you’re struggling to find success, balance, fulfillment and peace, you now know what to do. Try out one of the options above and let me know how it works out for you.
