What does it mean to choose yourself? Not as a feel-good mantra, but as a bold, often uncomfortable, and necessary act of self-love and self-loyalty?

In Episode 2 of my conversation with Edith Karimi on The Woman Experience, we explore the silent inner shift that happens when a woman says, “I’ve had enough! This time, I’m choosing me.”

This is the second part of a four-part series where we dive into what it truly takes to rewrite your story, do less while achieving more, own your worth, and move from overwhelm to empowerment.

If you missed Episode 1, where we explored burnout, emotional healing, and the quiet collapse behind “having it all”, you can watch it here. You can also read my accompanying blog post, where I talked about moving from burnout to breakthrough.

Why Choosing Yourself Feels So Hard (But Matters So Much)

Choosing yourself is rarely easy.

For many high-achieving women, the idea of prioritizing your needs, dreams, and truth can feel selfish, or even dangerous. We’re conditioned to carry others, to meet expectations, and to be everything to everyone.

But what happens when you finally look in the mirror and realize you’ve left yourself behind? What happens the day you realize that you’re not in your own picture…you’re standing on the outside looking in?

In this episode, Edith and I explore the complex, courageous journey of choosing yourself even when it costs comfort, approval, or relationships.

We talk about:

  • How to honour your old story without erasing it.
  • Conquering the fear of being truly seen.
  • Healing from cultural and generational expectations.
  • The intersection of ego, success, and shifting relationships.
  • What it really means to choose joy, on your own terms.

Prioritizing Yourself Isn’t Selfish, It’s Sacred

Too often, women pour endlessly from cups that are running on empty. We show up for others while abandoning ourselves, until the weight becomes too heavy, and something has to give.

Choosing yourself isn’t just a radical act of healing, it’s also an act of leadership. Because when you choose yourself, you don’t just change your life, you lead by example.

You stop waiting for someone to rescue you, fix you, or give you permission. You also give other women permission to do the same. And you become the safe space you’ve been seeking.

Pause, Reflect, and Begin Again

As you watch this episode, I invite you to go deeper with a few reflection questions. You can journal these or simply sit with them in quiet thought:

  • Where in your life have you been shrinking or silencing yourself?
  • What beliefs about womanhood, success, or sacrifice are ready to be unlearned?
  • What would it look like to choose yourself today, in one small, intentional way?

You don’t have to have all the answers. But you deserve to ask the right questions and begin answering them for yourself.

You’re Not Alone in This

Choosing yourself isn’t always comfortable, but it’s the beginning of real freedom.

This episode is for you if you’re standing at a crossroads, where everything looks fine on the outside, but feel off on the inside.

It’s for you if you have always put others first and now feel like you’re trying to pour from an empty cup.

And it’s also for you if you want to have a happier and more fulfilled life, where you take care of yourself and not just the world.
