For the past 28 days, we’ve been on a powerful journey through the 28 Days of Loving Yourself Challenge.

We explored self-care, self-worth, and practical strategies for building a life you love. And now that the challenge has ended, I want to leave you with a lesson from Day 26 and Day 28 of the challenge, and it can help you finish this quarter strong.

Because here’s the thing: March is the final stretch of the first quarter of the year. That’s 25% of 2025.

I celebrate with you if you’re acing your goals and having a blast doing so!

But don’t worry if you’re feeling behind or unfocused. This is your chance to regroup, refocus, and finish this quarter strong.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned about achieving success is this:

Focus demands sacrifice

Years ago, when I was building a career as a social science researcher, I was part of a team working on a communication strategy for a biomedical research center.

We were deep into a five-day planning workshop, brainstorming endlessly. Ideas were flying everywhere. Instead of narrowing them down, we kept adding more!

The facilitator, an experienced communication expert, watched us with growing frustration. Eventually, he stepped back, let us carry on for a few minutes, then walked to the whiteboard and wrote:

FOCUS DEMANDS SACRIFICE!

Then he turned to us and said:

“Ladies and gentlemen, we must choose the ideas to sacrifice so that we can be highly focused on a few things that we do very well.”

There was silence. And then, a shift.

Suddenly, we stopped adding ideas and started cutting them down. We eliminated what wasn’t essential and focused only on the things that truly mattered.

The result?

A streamlined strategy that led to amazing achievements in the following years.

Even though I wasn’t involved in the implementation of the strategy as I had already resigned from my job, I never forgot that moment.

And today, I want to pass that lesson on to you:

Where in your life do you need to apply this principle?

What distractions, commitments, or even good ideas are preventing you from staying focused on what truly matters?

  • Where are you spreading yourself too thin?
  • What tasks, commitments, or ideas are keeping you busy but not moving you forward on your most important goals?
  • What are 1-3 things you need to let go of so you can fully focus on your top priorities?

March is your chance to refine your focus and commit to what’s most important. Make a list of what to eliminate, defer, or delegate, and start cutting them off from your to-do and goals lists.

The power of focused action

We often think focus is about doing more, but real focus is about choosing what to sacrifice.

Think of focus like a magnifying glass. When the sun’s rays are scattered, nothing happens. But when you focus the sunlight through the magnifying glass, it burns through obstacles and changes things.

March is here and I have shared a strategy you can use to get the clarity to move forward with confidence.

The question is:

What will you sacrifice and what will you focus on so that you end the first quarter of the year strong?

I’d love to hear from you, so let me know in the Comments.
